At Photokina 2018 in Cologne earlier today, Panasonic has announced the development of the company’s first full-frame camera. Called the Lumix S1R and S1, the two camera is the result of collaboration between Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma.
These cameras will be using Leica’s SL lens mount, currently being used on Leica SL cameras. For starters, Panasonic will be developing three new lenses for the S1 and S1R using the lens mount – a 50mm F1.4, 24-105mm, and 28-70mm – alongside the camera body. The company plans to release up to 10 lenses all the way to the year 2020.
Imaging on the S1 is handled by a new 24MP sensor while the S1R will feature a 47MP sensor. Panasonic has also claimed that both cameras will be the first full-frame DSLR in the world able to record 4K60p videos, and they will be weather-sealed for extra ruggedness.
Both SD and XQD storage slots will be available on these cameras, in addition to a dual-axis tilting LCD touch panel. Both cameras will also support Panasonic’s Dual-IS technology, which combines in-body and in-lens stabilization to reduce shakes while filming.
Panasonic is aiming to release the two Lumix S-series cameras along with the three new lenses in early 2019. That means you have a little bit of time to save some money before these camera roll out into the market.
