eMoovit Is The First Company To Test An Autonomous Vehicle On Cyberjaya MyAV Route

Futurise has announced that the government has given the green light to test an autonomous vehicle on the Malaysia Autonomous Vehicle testing route (MyAV) in Cyberjaya. The self-driving car in question will be a modified Proton Exora operated by local tech company eMoovit.

For those unfamiliar, eMoovit was founded in 2016 with the aim of specialising and providing vehicle agnostic driverless software solutions for urban environments. As seen with the company’s own modified Proton Exora, the company also develops component based solutions which are capable of converting conventional cars into self-driving vehicles. These can be deployed within different applications such as first/last mile transportation, logistics and even utility solutions.

According to a report by DNA, the Futurise and the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) has classified two routes under the MyAV program. Route A covers a small area surrounding Futurise’s office in Cyberjaya, while the larger Route B runs through a larger area of the city. It is believed that eMoovit’s Exora will be tested on one of these routes, if not both.

This upcoming trial will likely be the first of many tests involving autonomous vehicles in Cyberjaya. Futurise noted that applications to utilise the MyAv route must be directed to them as the secretariat, and will then be considered by the MyAV Evaluation Committee which is chaired by MOT along with MPSepang, JPJ, APAD, MIROS, MARii and the Automotive Development Center of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
