Health DG: Those Tested Positive For COVID-19 Should Self Isolate First

The number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia are regularly in quadruple-digit numbers in recent weeks. This has led to the local healthcare system to be strained. So much so that the Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has asked those who have been recently tested positive for the virus but show no symptoms to self-quarantine at home.

The Malay Mail reports that the Health DG cites logistics issues regarding ferrying patients to hospitals. He also said that with the increased number of testing among foreign workers, more cases are expected to be diagnosed. The report also quotes Dr Noor Hisham as saying “Foreign workers have no place to be isolated in”.

Dr Noor Hisham’s comments came as a response to a business owner who claims that three of her employees were tested positive for COVID-19, but were not taken to government hospitals. He also said that those who are waiting to be taken to hospitals should keep in contact with their district health offices.

Malaysia had a total of 1196 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. While it’s down to half that of the day before, it looks like the number of cases will remain within the four-digit range for quite awhile.
