Intel To Outsource Production of Atom And Xeon Chipsets To TSMC

The job description says that accepted applicants will be a part of Intel’s QAT design team and will play a key role in the “development and integration of QAT into Atom and Xeon based SoC,” on both Intel and TSMC process.

While the semiconductor company is famed for its processors – both for the desktop and laptops – and its contribution towards the “thin and light” Ultrabook, Intel is also known for producing a greater number of specialised Atom and Xeon-based chipsets. To address a variety of niche markets. Case in point, the company’s recently introduced Snow Ridge Atom-based SoC that was announced last year. The CPU comes with up to 24 Tremont cores and is designed for 5G base stations.

It isn’t just the production of Atom and Xeon chipsets that Intel is outsourcing to TSMC either. Besides those chipsets, the Taiwanese foundry has also been commissioned by the semiconductor brand to fabricate its Xe-HPG GPUs and Xe-HPC compute slices.
