One UI 3.0 Update Rolling Out To Samsung Galaxy S20 Series In Malaysia

Samsung initially revealed that the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update is confirmed to roll out in Malaysia within November or later. Even though the update was never released last month, it appears that it has finally begun distributing to units of the local Samsung Galaxy S20 series.

Twitter user Isaac Chong (@zacaaron) reports that his Galaxy S20 Plus has recently received the One UI 3.0 update, which bears the version labels G985FXXU5CTKG / G985FOXM5CTKG / G985FXXU5CTKF. Based on the screenshots provided, the installer is revealed to be over 2GB in size, so make sure to download the file when connected to a WiFi network.

Apart from the system upgrade, the One UI 3.0 patch also includes various improvements in terms of visual design, app performance, battery efficiency, privacy controls and so on. The included patch note also lists the security patch level to be the latest 1 December 2020 version.

In terms of important changes, Samsung wrote that the S20 will no longer use Wi-Fi Direct to send files after the update, but instead relies on the Nearby Share function. That said, the device can still receive files through the former if the new feature is unavailable. Other than that, connecting to Chromecast will now be done via Google Home rather than Smart View.

Given its gradual release, it is possible that not all users of the Samsung Galaxy S20 series will receive the new software update. At the time of writing, the system upgrade has not arrived for our Galaxy S20 FE unit just yet. As mentioned previously, One UI 3.0 is planned to roll out to the aforementioned series first, so it will take a while until other Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Note20 and the Galaxy Tab models to receive it.

Thank you Isaac Chong for the tip!
