During its Unpacked event, Samsung officially unveiled its Galaxy SmartTag. It’s probably the most straightforward of all the products the company announced during the event. It’s a tag that you attach to things so that you can locate them if you lose them.
There are two variants of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag. The basic model uses Bluetooth to connect to your phone. It has its own dedicated app, and you can tap a ring button, and the tag will emit the ringtone of your phone.
Even if it is out of range, you’ll still be able to locate the tag. Samsung calls the tech the Galaxy Find Network. And it uses scanned data to find it for you. This data is encrypted, so no one else will be able to use it to get your stuff.
There’s also another variant, called the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag Plus. Overall, it’s the same thing, but rather than using Bluetooth this one uses ultra-wideband tech instead.
Samsung says that the SmartTags will be available starting 29 January. A single tag is priced at US$29.99 (~RM121), but you can get them in two- and four-packs, which are priced at US$49.99 (~RM202) and US$84.99 (~RM344), respectively. The Plus variants, on the other hand, is priced at US$39.99 (~RM162), with a two-pack at US$64.99 (~RM263).
Locally, Samsung has not provided any official details yet. But via the pre-order campaign for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the company indicates that the basic SmartTag is priced at RM119. No details on what the Plus model’s price will be like.
