Samsung Reportedly Granted US Licenses To Supply Display Panels To Huawei

Samsung Electronics’ display division is said to have received authorisation to continue supplying certain display panel products to Huawei Technologies. According to a report by Reuters, a source familiar with the matter claimed that the Korean tech giant has recently received licenses from US authorities for the resumed trade.

However, it is still uncertain whether Samsung will be able to export its OLED panels to the Chinese company. The panel, in its entirety, is composed of other necessary components that are manufactured by other firms. This would indeed complicate things as these firms would also require licenses from US authorities in order to provide supplies to Huawei.

Since May 2019, the US has barred the Chinese tech giant from doing business with US-based companies. Later sanctions were then introduced to ban Huawei from obtaining foreign-made chips developed or produced using American software or technology for its products.

Both Huawei and Samsung did not provide a comment regarding the matter when approached by Reuters.
