HONOR V40 Teaser Video Confirms Chinese Launch Date; Reveals Front Design

HONOR has revealed that its upcoming V40 flagship smartphone will launch on 18 January in China. It will be the first device released by the brand after gaining independence from its former parent company Huawei.

Along with the announcement, the company also released a short teaser video showcasing the phone, albeit just a glimpse of its front design. So far, it is confirmed that the phone, or a variant of it, will feature a curved display along with a pill-shaped cutout for its front facing camera(s). On the bottom is a speaker grille, USB-C port and what appears to be a slot for its sim card tray.

As for the rear design of the HONOR V40, leaks from various sources have provided information that strangely contradict each other, despite accurately depicting the front. As reported last month, one source allegedly revealed the phone may feature a watch-inspired circular camera array featuring four sensors. However, a recent post by Digital Chat Station on Weibo featuring supposed leaked photos of the V40’s casing accessory suggests that it may instead come with a camera setup similar to the Huawei Nova 8 Pro – with a large primary sensor sitting on top of three smaller cameras.

HONOR has yet to officially reveal the phone’s specifications, but unofficial sources say that it may feature a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ chipset and a 120Hz display. A listing on China’s 3C Certification site reveals that the upcoming V40 will come with 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging capabilities, but its battery capacity is unknown at this time.

We will eventually find out more details regarding the HONOR V40 smartphone when it officially launches in two weeks time. Also not discounting the possibility that the company may decide to drop some hints along the way before that, as a way to build hype for the new handset.
