Huawei P50 Reportedly Features Kirin 9000 Chipset; Display Supplied By Samsung And LG

Despite the shortcomings it has faced in this year alone due to US sanctions, Huawei is reportedly planning to release its next generation flagship series in the new year. Furthermore, it is also said that the upcoming Huawei P50 will still feature a Kirin chipset, although it was previously suggested that the recent Mate 40 series would be the last from the brand to feature it.

The report came from Korean news site The Elec, which wrote that the upcoming Huawei flagship will feature the same Kirin 9000 SoC as the Mate 40. If accurate, this would mean that the company may have produced enough stock of the chipset in order to include it in the new P-series. There is also a reason to believe that Huawei may have access to more Kirin chips after selling off its subsidiary brand Honor to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology.

Besides the chipset, the site added that the upcoming P50 series may be equipped with OLED panels supplied by Samsung and LG. As previously reported, Samsung was granted a license by US authorities to trade its display technologies with the Chinese company in late October 2020. It is believed that LG have received their license to supply Huawei around the same time as well.

The existence of the Huawei P50 smartphones is still unconfirmed at this time, but its forthcoming is not unlikely. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing an announcement from the company sometime soon, as it is reported that Huawei is planning to debut the new flagship series in the first half of 2021.
