Xiaomi Launches Redmi Watch In China; The Sub-Brand’s First Ever Smartwatch

Xiaomi has lifted the drapes of the new Redmi Watch, its subsidiary brand’s first ever smart wearable. The launch of the device followed after the unveiling of the upgraded Redmi Note 9 smartphone series, which we reported earlier today.

The Redmi Watch sports a square 1.4-inch colour display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, which is covered by 2.5D glass. It weighs around 35g and is offered in five colour options with matching straps: white, black, pink, blue and green. Xiaomi did not mention a rating, but it is claimed that the new watch is waterproof up to 50m depths.

Being a smartwatch, the device features the usual set of fitness, health and sleep tracking capabilities, as well as functions such as notifications and many others. For personalisation, it also comes with over 120 watch faces which you can customise via the brand’s Mi Fit companion app on mobile devices.

In terms of connectivity, the Redmi Watch comes with Bluetooth 5.0 BLE and NFC, but lacks any LTE capability. The company says that the device is able to last up to 7 days with normal use and 12 days with power-saving mode. It charges its battery through a proprietary cradle and will require around two hours for a full top-up.

The new Redmi Watch is slated to be sold in China for CNY299 (~RM185) on 1 December 2020. Much like the Redmi Note 9 5G series, Xiaomi has not revealed if the smartwatch is planned for an international release at this time.
