Apple Self Driving Car To Enter Production By 2024; Features New Battery Tech

It’s been a very long time since we’ve heard of the self driving car efforts by Apple. But a new report indicates that it is going along swimmingly. It will even have a new battery tech of its own too.

Reuters reports that Apple is planning to produce a passenger vehicle in 2024. The iPhone maker also has a new battery design that could “radically” reduce the cost of batteries and increase the vehicle’s range, according to sources reported by Reuters. Though no details were disclosed as to what makes the battery design so impressive.

The company’s self-driving car efforts hasn’t exactly been smooth at the start. Apple started with its own designs back in 2014 under what’s known as Project Titan. The company even scaled back its effort to reassess its goals at one point in time. But it looks like the company has finally gotten things down pat.

That being said, Apple is still giving itself three years to sort out the actual production process. Reuters’ sources say that the company will likely rely on a manufacturing partner for this. And despite its plans to start in 2024, pandemic-related delays could push it back to 2025, or even beyond. And there’s no guarantee that the company will decide by then to just slap its autonomous driving system into a traditional car, rather than making an Apple-branded one.
