Facebook To Offer More Account Security Options To Users Next Year

Among the many constant challenges that Facebook faces are ones regarding privacy and security. On the latter, the social media company is planning to make more account security options available for more people. These options are already available for high profile users, like politicians in the US. But these will be made available for people of other professions next year.

Axios reports that the social media company will make its Facebook Protect security program to people with more vulnerable jobs. This includes the likes of journalists and human rights activists. It will also be made available in countries with upcoming major elections.

Facebook Protect itself includes more security options like two-factor authentication and real-time monitoring for hacking attempts. In addition to those, there is also the option to use physical security keys as well. These will be sent to public figures like politicians, but the average Joe will also be able to buy them. And these can be obtained from various retailers, both in-person and online.

These additions are definitely good additions to Facebook. Two-factor authentication should suffice for the average user, but the idea of a physical key may be appealing to some. There’s also no word on when these will be implemented beyond next year.
