Apple has disabled the ability of allowing users to install iOS-based applications on their M1 Mac devices. Prior to this, the .IPA installation files for these applications can be sideloaded via iTunes or a third party tool known as iMazing, but the company has blocked these entirely.
Certain apps such as Netflix and Spotify are not yet available on macOS, thus resulting users to sideload the iOS versions onto their M1 devices instead. While the system is capable of running the mobile versions of the aforementioned app, Apple considers these actions as unauthorised.
At this time, any attempts of installing iOS apps onto macOS will result in an error message stating that the installation has failed. The 11.2 beta version of the operating system, according to 9to5Mac, will present the user with a more specific message saying, “the application cannot be installed because the developer did not intend for it to run on this platform.”
Surprisingly, the iOS apps that are already installed on the M1-based devices can still be accessed without any problems. However, seeing that Apple is already cracking down on sideloaded applications on macOS, it may not be long until it will disable the ability altogether.
