While we were expecting NVIDIA to officially announce the arrival of its GeForce RTX 30 series for gaming laptops – it did, by the way – the GPU brand decided to open up the product announcement floor with its new entry-level GPU, the GeForce RTX 3060.
As explained by Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of GeForce at NVIDIA, the RTX 3060 was designed to both serve and act as the replacement for its Pascal equivalent, the GTX 1060. To our surprise, the RTX 3060 actually comes with 12GB GDDR6 graphics memory; 4GB more than its slightly more powerful brother, the RTX 3060 Ti.
In terms of performance, Fisher says that the card has twice the faster performance of the GTX 1060, and 10 times the ray-tracing performance. And while not explicitly mentioned, we’re going to go out on a limb here and say that the card will undoubtedly be optimised for Full HD gaming, and maybe a little bit of 1440p where applicable. Other specifications of the card include 13 Shader TFLOPS, 25 RT-TFLOPS, and 101 Tensor-TFLOPs.
The GeForce RTX 3060 is expected to hit shelves around the world sometime in “late February”. On a somewhat related note, there also isn’t any mention of a Founders Edition version of the card, meaning that NVIDIA could simply be leaving it to its AiB partners to release the card in their own respective third-party cooling solution. Last but not least, pricing for the RTX 3060 will start at US$329 (~RM1334).
