OPPO Reveals Reno5 Pro Plus Limited Edition In China; Features Colour-Changing Rear Case

OPPO recently launched its new Reno5 series in Malaysia yesterday, which included a standard variant and a Pro model. Meanwhile in China, the company has revealed a limited edition of the Reno5 Pro Plus, which was originally launched in the country in late December 2020. Unlike the original, this version of the phone features a unique feature: a colour-changing rear case.

The OPPO Reno5 Pro Plus Artist Limited Edition is designed in a partnership with artist Joshua Vides, who is known for his sketch-like designs for interior decorations and other products. This is reflected on the phone’s rear case, which features the aforementioned look as well as the electrochromic glass panel that switches colour from blue to grey and vice versa.

As you may recall from an article we published back in September last year, the colour-changing technology was first demonstrated by OPPO’s sister company Vivo on an unspecified concept phone. OPPO claims that it is capable of over 30,000 colour change cycles, it should work up until the end of the phone’s lifecycle.

Apart from that, this variant of the Reno5 Pro Plus features the same specs as the original. Specifically, a 6.55-inch curved AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 865 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and a battery capacity of 4,500mAh with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging support.

For photography, the OPPO Reno5 Pro Plus is equipped with a quad-camera setup consisting of a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, 16MP ultra-wide angle, 13MP telephoto, and a 2MP macro sensor. Housed in the punch-hole cutout on its display is a 32MP selfie camera.

The Artist Limited Edition of the handset is set to go on sale in China on 22 January for CNY4,499 (~RM2,812). There’s no word if OPPO plans to have the Reno5 Pro Plus or the limited edition to launch globally at this time.
