Huawei Mate X2 Foldable Phone Goes Official: Features 8-inch Main Display, Kirin 9000, 100x Zoom Camera

Despite the on-going turmoil that Huawei has faced from the U.S sanctions, it doesn’t stop the company from coming out with new products. Earlier this evening, the Chinese tech giant has unveiled a new foldable phone called Mate X2.

As opposed to the original Mate X from 2019 and the subsequent Mate Xs that was released in Malaysia almost a year ago, the new Mate X2 has an inward-folding design. This is the same design that Samsung has used for its Galaxy Fold devices for the past two years as well.

Powered by Huawei’s own 5nm Kirin 9000 processor which has also been used on Mate40 Series devices, the exterior part of Mate X2 features a 6.45-inch Full HD+ OLED display which also houses the phone’s 16MP selfie camera. Inside, the foldable phone carries an 8-inch OLED with a native resolution of 2480 x 2200.

Even though both displays have a 90Hz refresh rate, their touch sampling rate is different from each other. Specifically, the exterior display has a much higher touch sampling rate at 240Hz while the internal display maxed out at 180Hz.

As for its rear camera array which was co-designed by Leica, the Mate 2X relies on a 50MP f/1.9 main camera alongside a 16MP ultra-wide f/2.2 camera and a 12MP f/2.4 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The device also carries another 8MP SuperZoom camera which offers 10x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.

In case you are wondering, yes, users can actually utilize the rear quad-camera module as a selfie camera too. Completing its general specifications is a 4500mAh battery that supports the Huawei SuperCharge 55W charger.

The new Huawei Mate X2 will be made available in China later this month with a price tag of RMB 17999 (~RM 11,253) for the 256GB variant while the larger 512GB model goes for RMB 18999 (RM 11,878). No release date has been announced for Malaysia for the time being though.

Motorola Razr 5G Foldable Phone Now In Malaysia For RM 5999; Comes with Free M7 Tablet

First launched in September 2020, the Motorola Razr 5G foldable phone has made its way to Malaysia and has been listed on the official stores of Motorola’s parent company, Lenovo. The model is the successor to the first modernised Razr that was released in early 2020 and the lineage of both models can be traced back to the original Razr V3 that was launched in 2004.

Just as a refresher for those who aren’t familiar with the second generation Razr foldable phone, it has a 6.2-inch foldable OLED panel as its main display alongside a 2.7-inch external screen that Motorola called Quick View display. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, the 5G-capable phone also features an 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage but the phone does not come with expandable storage option though.

The Razr 5G also comes with a 48MP camera on its back as well as 20MP selfie camera as its photography tools. Completing its general specifications is a 2800mAh battery which sounds rather tiny for 2021 although it does support 15W fast chargers.

In terms of pricing, the Razr 5G can be obtained for RM 5,999 via Lenovo Malaysia’s official store on Lazada and Shopee. According to the listing on both stores, customers will also receive a free Lenovo M7 tablet and a leather case for their new foldable phone.
