Malaysian Telcos Offering Free Calls For Aidilfitri; From 10pm Tonight Until 10am Tomorrow

The Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Saifuddin Abdullah has recently announced that local telcos will be offering Malaysians with free calls for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. He revealed that this effort is organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), with the collaboration of various mobile service providers such as Celcom, Digi, Maxis, redONE, TM, Time dotCom, Tune Talk, U Mobile, Yoodo, and Yes 4G.

With the recently implemented Movement Control Order (MCO) nationwide, any form of public gatherings for celebrations and such are strictly prohibited – as part of the updated SOPs determined by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the National Security Council (MKN). In the interest to elevate the spirits of all Malaysians for tomorrow’s Aidilfitri festivities, the aforementioned telcos will be offering customers free unlimited voice calls starting from 10:00 PM tonight on 12 May, until 10:00 AM tomorrow morning on 13 May 2021.

However, Saifuddin noted that the free calls are subject to the terms and conditions determined by their respective telcos. Users are recommended to refer to their service providers for any clarification, he added.

Do keep in mind that this joint effort only applies to voice calls during the duration – including calls between the telco companies mentioned earlier. However, it’s worth mentioning that those who wish to use their data for video calls and so on for tomorrow should utilise the free 1GB daily internet provision from all local telcos, which is currently ongoing until 31 July 2021.

Digital E3 2021 Will Be Completely Free To Access

With E3 last year getting cancelled outright, this year’s event has been moved online. But earlier reports indicated that there would be segments that you’d have to pay for to access. The organisers of the event, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) have since stated that it won’t be so.

The official E3 Twitter account also quoted the original report by VGC, directly shooting it down. In the tweet itself, it says that the 2021 digital show is free for all “attendees”. The tweet goes on to say that more details will be shared soon.

VGC claims that prior to the tweet, the E3 organisers were supposedly pitching plans for fees gating some of the content. These would go up to US$35 (~RM145), though no details on what sort of content that would be. Though sources to the outlet say that at least one major video games company “expressed criticisms of the paywall plans”. This may be the reason behind the paywall ultimately not happening.

In another statement sent to the outlet, the ESA says that it would “deliver a free experience for everyone interested in E3 2021”. All in all, it probably makes more sense that a digital E3 is free for all to watch. Even BlizzCon, which traditionally required a paid online ticket, made access free in this year’s online iteration.

PlayStation To Make Eight More Games Free On 26 March

Earlier this month, Sony Interactive Entertainment gave away Ratchet & Clank for free. This was part of the company’s Play at Home initiative. While the game is still available for download, SIE will be adding eight more titles to the list at the end of the month.

Though this time around, there is a nice mix of indie and VR titles in the list. In the former category, we have Abzu, Rez Infinite, Subnautica and The Witness. Another title, Enter the Gungeon, is also in the list, but SIE says that this one will not be available in Malaysia, alongside a few other countries.

For VR titles, there’s Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Moss, Thumper and Paper Beast. Naturally, you’ll need not just a PS4, but also the PS VR headset for these. If you want to enjoy them on the PS5, you’ll also need an additional adapter.

These free indie and VR games will be available for you to claim come 26 March. Though you will have to claim them before 23 April 2021. In addition to all that, SIE says that it will also be making Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition free, but at a later date. More specifically, it will be available on 20 April. This is a great title to pick up if you don’t already have it, be it on either PlayStation console or on PC.

Rachet & Clank Now Free On PS4 And PS5; PlayStation Plus Subscription Not Required

PlayStation (PS) owners will have plenty of games to keep them occupied in the month of March, completely free of charge – including titles such as the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Farpoint, among others. Well, prepare to add one more to that list as Sony recently made the 2016 remake of Ratchet & Clank available for free on the PS4 and PS5.

The best part? You don’t need a PS Plus subscription in order to get the title. Simply hop on the PlayStation Store via web or on your PS4/PS5 console and claim it.

The game’s free distribution is part of Sony’s Play at Home Initiative, which encourages PlayStation gamers to, well, stay at home during the ongoing pandemic. If this sounds all too familiar, that’s because the company had also kicked off the same initiative last year in April – where it offered two PS-exclusive titles, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey, at no charge and no PS Plus subscription required.

If you’re craving for more free games, worry not as Sony has got you covered. The company is planning to offer more titles as part of its Play at Home Initiative through June. However, like any good surprise, it will only announce them when the time comes. Chances are, they’re likely going to be other PS-exclusive titles such as Infamous or Killzone.

Sony previously included the Ratchet & Clank remake as part of its PlayStation Plus Collection to celebrate the launch of the PS5 back in November. With no subscription needed to claim the game for free this time around, this is the best opportunity for fans and newcomers alike to experience a reworked version of Insomniac’s PS1 classic – especially a couple of months before its sequel, Rift Apart, is released for the PS5 on 11 June 2021.
