Elon Musk Claims New RDNA2-Powered Tesla Infotainment System On Par With PlayStation 5

Elon Musk, Bitcoin aficionado and CEO of Tesla, recently held the launch for his company’s latest car, the Model S Plaid. As you’d expect, the electric vehicle is loaded with the latest state-of-the-art technology on the current market, the most important piece of technology for us perhaps being its new and improved infotainment system.

Specifically, the Model S Plaid’s infotainment system is powered by AMD’s Navi 23, a GPU that was initially rumoured to make its debut with the parent company’s alleged Radeon RX 6600 GPU series. To that end, the launch marked the first time the GPU’s power was being demonstrated and during a non-AMD keynote to boot.

Details of Navi 23 is still scarce but from what we know, the GPU is expected to have up to 2048 Stream Processors and support up to 8GB GDDR6 graphic memory on both the RX 6600XT and RX 6600. As for its performance, Musk went as far as to say his car’s infotainment system was as powerful as a Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5).

That wasn’t an empty boast either; putting his money where his mouth is, Musk gave a live demonstration of his car’s Navi 23-powered infotainment system running Cyberpunk 2077 with the console’s 17-inch display as the output and at its maximum resolution of 2200 x 1300 pixels.

Nike PG 5 PlayStation 5 Sneakers To Be Available In Malaysia For RM 465

Paul George’s love for PlayStation is pretty deep to the extent that it has been incorporated into some of his Nike signature shoes over the years. Things are no different for his latest signature model, as they have been given the PlayStation 5 colourway which will be making its way to Malaysia in just a few days time.

Currently playing for Los Angeles Clippers, it seems apt enough that the latest signature shoes for the professional basketball player are called the PG 5. Aside from featuring PS5’s white, blue, and black colour accents, there are also PlayStation logos on the tongue and insole of the right shoe.

Additionally, the four icons from the PlayStation DualSense controller can also be seen on the shoes’ forefoot and heel overlay. Completing the PlayStation extravaganza on these shoes is PG 5 heel tags that are written in PS5 font as well as a special PG x PS hangtag.

In Malaysia, the new PG 5 PS5 basketball shoes will be made available through Nike Malaysia’s official website on 14 May 2021 at 10:00 AM with a price tag of RM 465 which is similar to the standard PG 5 EP release. Since getting limited-edition releases through Nike’s website is notoriously hard, we hope that the odds will be in your favour if you’re planning to cop the PG 5 PS5 shoes.

PC Modder Designs And Builds World’s First Water-Cooled PlayStation 5

Water cooling is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, one of the most effective forms of keeping the temperatures of one’s gaming PC low and quiet. In the case of the Vietnamese modder, Modding Cafe, they decided to apply the cooling technique to another kind of gaming machine: the PlayStation 5 (PS5).

Based on the Vietnam-based modder’s 13-minute long YouTube video, the custom PS5’s water-cooling components were all made from scratch, creating from first disassembling and reverse-engineering the console. As with all custom-made water-cooled system, the PS5’s custom onboard AMD Ryzen chipset gets a waterblock directly into it. In this case, however, everything – from the waterblock to the piping – is machine cut directly into a single piece of acrylic, which also sort of doubles as the PS5’s side plate.

The end result of Modding Cafe’s endeavour makes their PS5 look like something out of this world. Point in fact, the finished product looks nothing like the original PS5, while the built-in RGB LEDs lend an absolutely garish element to the overall design.

Now, it goes without saying that Modding Cafe’s actions are experimental by nature, and they are far from being the first ones to walk the road of customisation; that honour goes to another dBrand, the popular custom skinning brand that created custom side plates for the console, albeit at the ire of Sony and its Interactive Entertainment division.

On that note, we should remind you that manually disassembling your PS5 will most certainly void the warranty. Also, removing the out-of-box heatsink from the chipset would be ill-advised, given that both components are conjoined by liquid metal, and not your average thermal compound.

Analysts: Ongoing Semiconductor Shortage Could Still Affect Sony PlayStation 5 Supply

As more Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5) supplies slowly and steadily make their way into the hands of consumers, the company’s gaming chief also assured gamers that it will be able to produce a “decent number” of the console during the second half of 2021. However, some industry analysts are seeing signs to the contrary.

Several analysts point out that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the corresponding lockdowns have been a source of pain and grief to the production chain of many semiconductor producers and brands. This also includes brands within the automotive and smartphone industry.

Sony, however, seems to be feeling optimistic about the future sales of the PS5. Jim Ryan, president and chief executive officer for Sony Interactive Entertainment, expects the current supply limitation for the consoles to get better throughout the year. However, Ryan fell short of providing a guarantee that Sony would have enough PS5 in stock to meet this year’s holiday sales season.

Since its launch last year, Sony sold a total of 4.5 million PS5s in November and December, and has plans to outperform the sales figure of its predecessor, the PS4. Of which it sold 14.9 million units in the first 12 months of its existence.

By comparison, Nintendo sold 26 million units of its Switch console during the whole of 2020, while Microsoft sold just 2.8 million Xbox Series X and Series S consoles within the same November and December time frame last year. It also doesn’t help that demand for the PS5 is still running high and even worse, it’s a factor with no end in sight.

On another note, Sony recently announced that a 2nd generation PSVR headset was in the works, although unsurprisingly, the announcement was lacking a great deal of detail.
