MultiVersus Gets An Official Reveal Trailer

Warner Bros’ MultiVersus had a couple of leaks last month, one of which detailed the game’s potential roster. Now, short of a month later, the publisher is ready to reveal the game in its own terms. There’s also some extra details on the way this game is different compared to other titles of the genre.

To start, the roster from the prior leak was mostly accurate, minus Gandalf. In his place is Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. The devs at Player First Games also confirm that the game will be free-to-play.

One thing that MultiVersus tries to set itself apart from other platform fighters is the emphasis on the social elements. One of them being 2v2 games, with characters having moves that are made specifically to benefit team play. One example is moves that pull allies back in when they’re about to fall off the platform.

Then there’s the usual crossplay and cross progression, which is always nice. But MutliVersus takes it a step further, with a Guild system that’s usually reserved for MMOs. This is to mainly drive home the emphasis of the 2v2 game mode. It does seem very MOBA-like, and quite excessive for a platform fighter.

What isn’t excessive though is the voice work for the characters. Most of them are immediately recognisable if you watch the shows or play the games they come from. MultiVersus will also get new characters and skins later, which will likely be where the free-to-play game will be monetised.

For now, MultiVersus still has no release date, beyond a vague 2022 window. But it will be available on both generations of both console brands, and PC. There’s also an upcoming playtest session that you can sign up for if you like what you see enough. Though those also don’t have a date just yet.

iPad mini Pro Rumour Emerges Ahead of Expected 2021 Reveal

Earlier in January, we saw what could be renders of the iPad mini 6, due for an announcement this year. It features a redesign that is reminiscent of the iPad Pro line, without actually getting the Pro moniker. This is similar to the iPad Air 4 released last year. Now, though, there’s word of a Pro model, which muddies the waters.

Korean Blog Naver makes mention of an iPad mini Pro model, stating that it will measure 8.7 inches. It’s unclear if this is referring to the iPad mini that’s expected to be announced, or a new variation entirely.

With the iPad Air also adopting the iPad Pro design language, this leaves the base model and the mini to still be rocking the original design. And it does make the two models look a little behind the times. But this may be a conscious business decision on Apple’s part, at least for the mini. 9to5Mac points out that most of iPad mini sales are to businesses, who may use them for warehouse inventory or restaurant waiting scenarios. And a change in design would affect the usability with custom accessories.

Regardless of the actual naming convention, it looks like the design change is something that many can agree on. And for consumers, that can only be a good thing, besides the two punch holes we saw in the renders.

AMD To Reveal Mid-Range Radeon RX 6000 On 3 March; Shows Off Dual-Fan Radeon Cooler Shroud

Earlier today, AMD tweeted via its official Radeon RX account that it will be revealing the latest addition to its RDNA2-powered Radeon family on 3 March. More importantly, the tweet includes a 20-seconds render clip, showing off what is clearly a Radeon card equipped with a reference dual-fan cooler shroud.

As these things go, the dual-fan cooler is very likely a hint that AMD’s next graphics card will target the mainstream and mid-range market, meaning that the card could possibly be the long-rumoured RX 6700XT.

As a quick primer, previous reports indicated that AMD planned on releasing a graphics card that was less powerful than the 6800 series and 6900XT, equipped with a Navi 22 GPU. Additionally, the card is rumoured to ship out with 12GB GDDR6; 4GB less than what all current high-end Radeon RX 6000 series cards currently have. Not long after, the “official” logo of the RX 6700XT was leaked online, giving us an idea what we can expect. This was somewhat confirmed later by an EEC submission by Gigabyte that included no less than three variants of the card.

Unfortunately, the tweet doesn’t include any further details about the card’s performance, nor does it include any specifications. That said, we at least know that, because the card is made with AMD’s RDNA2 technology, we also know that the card’s GPU will be based on the company’s 7nm die lithography.

One additional takeaway that we think bears noticing is the ray-traced reflections at the bottom of the card, literally. To date, AMD has not mentioned anything new about the feature since it last released its Hangar 21 tech demo, and frankly, it does seem like a subtle hint that the company could also be gearing up to announce the availability of the feature on 3 March. So, fingers crossed on this.
