4K Nintendo Switch Dev Kits Do Exist; Consumer Units Could Arrive On Store Shelves By 2022

Come 8 October, the Nintendo Switch OLED model will be available for purchase, first in the US. As its name implies, the new Switch will feature a new OLED display, but not one with the 4K resolution that many fans had initially expected. It’s a move by Nintendo that, frankly, surprised game developers and for a pretty damn good reason to boot: many of them say that they had developed their respective titles with Switch development kits that were capable of supporting 4K graphics.

According to Bloomberg, developers working at no less than 11 game companies confirmed that their teams were definitely in possession of 4K-capable Switch dev kits. The developers aren’t just small-time companies either; while they had asked not to be named, there is little doubt that several of them would be prominent studios and companies.

In light of the report, Nintendo responded to Bloomberg soon after, saying that its reports about the 4K Switch dev kits was merely “inaccurate” and did not elaborate on any of its statement any further. It also reiterated that it had no plans for any other Switch models beyond the OLED variant at the current moment.

Despite the refute, developers that claim that they are developing 4K titles for Switch, say that their games should be out sometime “during or after” the second half of 2022. If that is to be believed, then it is likely that a Nintendo Switch capable of 4K output would also be made available around the same time.

Upcoming Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC To Ship Out With Six AMD RDNA2 Compute Units

Back in June this year, AMD made its partnership with Samsung official by announcing that the latter’s next flagship Exynos System on Chip (SoC) would be powered by the former’s RDNA2 GPU technology, and that there is still a possibility of a launch for it this month. On that note, one of the internet’s most prominent leaksters, Ice Universe, recently dropped some information regarding the Exynos 2200 SoC and its GPU cores.

To our surprise, Ice Universe didn’t post the information on Twitter like they usually do; instead, the leakster’s post was made via the popular Chinese social media platform, Weibo. The post, which is no longer available, included a very simple diagram of what looks to be the layout of the Exynos 2200. At the top-right of the diagram are six squares, vertically lined up, that supposedly represents the six RDNA2 GPU Compute Units (CPUs) that will handle all matters pertaining to graphics fidelity.

Beyond that, there isn’t much else to go on about the post, nor is there any additional details about its performance. That said, there are leaks about the RDNA2-powered SoC; one of the most recent leaks was also posted by Ice Universe, with the AMD GPU scoring 8134 points on UL’s 3DMark Wild Life test. However, it should also be noted that in that benchmark, the CPU portion of that SoC used Cortex-A77 processors, which is quite old when compared to the Cortex-X1 core. Used in the current Exynos 2100 SoC.

As it is with all leaks and rumours, we highly recommend that you take this news with a large grain of salt until an official statement has been made.
