Square Wants To Build Hardware Wallet For Bitcoin

Square, the US-based financial services and digital payments company, announced that it is planning on building a hardware wallet for Bitcoin. The announcement was made earlier today by Jesse Dorogusker, CEO of Square, via his official Twitter account.

Dorogusker’s decision supposedly comes about a month after Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Bitcoin enthusiast, announced that he, too, was interested in creating a Bitcoin hardware wallet, but failed to specify an exact timeline for his project. Dorogusker says that this led to several questions over Dorsey’s tweet popping up on Twitter, which prompted him to make the decision and figure out where to go from there.

That isn’t to say that this is Square’s first foray in creating a Bitcoin-centric product; since 2018, the CEO’s company already operates its self-titled Square Cash App, which is accessible across all 50 states in the US. Getting back on point, Dorogusker also said that he and Square will be taking questions about the project, but made no promises and deadlines as to when the digital wallet would be ready. That said, it will be interesting to see what comes out of this.

PS5 To Get Hardware Redesign; Production To Start In 2022

It looks like the PS5 may be getting a slight upgrade in a year or two. But so far, it looks like it’s not as major as going from the PS4 to the PS4 Pro. Instead, it may be something like the new, improved battery life version of the Nintendo Switch instead.

Taiwanese website DigiTimes reports that the PS5 will be getting a hardware redesign. Emphasis on the hardware part, going from a 7nm CPU to a 6nm one. The company may have preferred to use 5nm, but ultimately decided against it because it’s too expensive to do so.

This supposed hardware redesign will enter production in 2022. Which may mean that the improved PS5 consoles will only see the light of day very late that year at its earliest, or in 2023. It’s unknown what sort of performance increase that can be expected from this redesign. But the usual suspects are a slight performance increase, and maybe better power efficiency.

Though on the outside, the console is not expected to get any significant cosmetic makeover. Overall, it’s probably safe to expect the same minimal fanfare that the improved Switch saw. Which is to say none at all besides maybe a way to identify which one you’re getting if you haven’t already gotten a PS5.

Spotify iOS Code Reveals Car Thing Hardware

Hardware may be the last thing that you’d associate with Spotify. But it looks like the company has something planned, called simply the Car Thing. And it’s quite difficult to describe what it actually is.

MacRumors reports that images of the Car Thing were found in the code of Spotify on iOS. On one hand, it looks similar to what was previously found in the US FCC. But on the other, it looks quite different to what the company showed back in 2019.

All things considered, it’s not quite known what it actually does. And all we have to go by is its description in the FCC filing. And it reads “voice controlled accessory for phone/Spotify App with supporting display and buttons”. The filing also points out that the Car Thing is Bluetooth-enabled, can communicate with in-car units, and is powered by a 12V outlet, which likely refers to the cigarette lighter socket.

The iOS code also indicates that the Spotify Car Thing has a number of different mounts. These possibly reflect the common in-car phone mounts that let you attach your phone to either the top of the dashboard or an air conditioner vent.

It remains to be seen if Spotify will release this funky piece of hardware. If it does, it will probably need a different name. Or it can just throw a curve ball and go with the Car Thing.

ASUS Gundam Collaboration Hardware To Come To Malaysia On 28 February

Earlier in the month, ASUS Malaysia teased that it will soon be bringing in its Gundam Collaboration hardware. No date was given back then, but now the company has a date locked, and that’s 28 February.

And it’s a pretty extensive list of products too, more so on the Earth Federation Space Force side of things. ASUS Malaysia is bringing in a total of 10 items from this list, which consists of the RT-AX 82U router, the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card, the ROG Strix LC 360 RGB cooler, the ROG Strix 850G PSU, the ROG Strix Helios tower case, the ROG Strix XG279Q monitor, the ROG Delta headset, the ROG Strix Scope TKL keyboard, the ROG Strix Impact II mouse, and the ROG Sheath mousepad. Notably missing though is the ROG Maximus XII Extreme Z490 motherboard.

If you’re a fan of the Red Comet, things are a little limited on this side of the Gundam collaboration. You’ve got four items, which are the RT-AX86U router, the TUF Gaming B550M motherboard, the TUF Gaming GT301 tower casing and the TUF Gaming VG27AQGL1A monitor.

ASUS Malaysia has yet to announce the prices of any of these items. But with the aforementioned 28 February release date, that’s likely when the company will be announcing the prices. You can find out more on the dedicated Gundam collaboration microsite, as well as where to buy them, linked below.
