Suddenly that $499 video game console doesn’t seem so bad, huh? Just a drop in the bucket compared to the price of the screen that you want to play it on! All joking aside, today we look at the specs and features of the Titan Zeus-- so you can decide if it’s worth that 1.6 mill! Apple TV 4K 2021 Uses An iPhone To Adjust Colour Balance; Starts From RM849

 Alongside the new iPad Pro and AirTag, Apple also announced the new Apple TV 4K at its recent event. This new entry features the A12 Bionic chip that we previously saw powering the iPhone XS and XR back in 2018.

The new Apple TV 4K has an interesting feature, simply called Colour Balance. This makes use of an accompanying iPhone to automatically adjust its own colour output, allowing it to compensate for colour inaccuracies of your TV. In other words, it works sort of like a monitor calibrator, except you do the calibration with an iPhone.

Accompanying the new Apple TV 4K is a new Apple TV Remote. It’s a small remote, with very few buttons. Most of the operation is done via the round clickpad at the centre. You can press down on each direction the old fashioned way. But in certain contexts you can also swipe across it like you would a smart device. And since it supports touch controls, you can also use circular gestures to use it as a jog control.

The Apple TV 4K comes with two storage options, 32GB and 64GB. These are priced at RM849 and RM949, respectively. You can also just get the new remote for RM229. Or, you can get the existing Apple TV HD with the new remote for RM719. That being said, Apple Malaysia has not said when you can actually buy it yet.

Disney To Shut Down Majority of Its TV Channels In Southeast Asia: May Deeply Impact Astro and unifi TV

Disney will be shutting down the majority of its TV channels in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong later this year. The decision was reportedly revealed to its staff during a town hall session this morning.

According to the report by ContentAsia, the reason behind the move was apparently due to a shift of focus to the direct-to-consumer business model in the form of streaming service. As you may know, the company has begun to offer Disney+ in Singapore and Indonesia while there were already major signs that service will be offered in Malaysia soon.

ContentAsia has also listed the 18 channels that will be closed by Disney:

Disney channels: Disney Channel, Disney Junior

Fox channels: Fox, Fox Crime, Fox Life, FX, Fox Movies, Fox Action Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports 3

National Geographics channels: Nat Geo People

Star channels: Star Movies China, SCM Legend, Star Sports 1, Star Sports 2

Others: Channel V

The closure of these channels will apparently take place on 1 October 2021 and only four channels will continue to be operational including National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, Star Chinese Channel, and Star Chinese Movies. The report also noted that the town hall session today did not discuss the impact of this decision on existing Disney’s staff within SEA and Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, this decision will definitely have a massive impact on Astro and unifi TV if this report proved to be true with the exception of Disney Channel and Disney Junior which have already been pulled out from Astro earlier this year. From the list above, many of them are currently available on both pay-TV platforms especially those that are under the Fox banner.

Not only that, the three Fox Sports channels carry plenty of major sporting events such as Formula 1, Australian Open, U.S Open, and many more. As live sports have always been seen as a major crowd puller for pay-TV services in Malaysia, this would not bode well for both Astro and unifi TV.

For now, even Disney’s broadcasting partners seem to be caught by surprise though. When we reached out to Astro to obtain clarifications, this was their response:

With reference to the news report that Disney plans to stop 18 of its linear channels in the Southeast Asia region of Oct 2021, we wish to inform that we are still waiting for detailed information from Disney.

We will update customers once we have full details.

As Disney and TM have not yet released any official statement on this matter, we are now reaching out to them to seek further information. We will keep you posted once we hear more.

Samsung’s 110-inch MicroLED TV Coming To Malaysia This May For RM 599,999

Over the years, Samsung has been showcasing its microLED technology whenever and wherever it can through a massive installation called The Wall. Now, consumers can get a similar experience through the consumer-level microLED models which are heading to Malaysia very soon.

While the underlying technology is the same, the implementation between The Wall and the new consumer model is quite different. The Wall revolves around modular microLED panels which can be stacked to reach sizes of up to 292-inch while the consumer version comes in fixed sizes.

Additionally, the consumer microLED TVs have a smaller screen size but still generally larger than your average TV screen. In Malaysia, the 2021 Samsung microLED TVs will be made available in two sizes including the 110-inch variant which was launched in South Korea last December alongside another variant with a smaller 99-inch screen.

Interesting enough, we were told that the 110-inch model comes with 4K resolution just like in South Korea but the 99-inch variant features 8K resolution instead. Price-wise, the 110-inch option goes for RM 599,999 while the 99-inch model is listed at RM 519,999.

The new 2021 Samsung microLED TVs will be made available for purchase through Samsung Malaysia’s official website this coming May. However, do note that they are built-to-order and takes around 6 to 8 weeks for Samsung to get it into your living room.
