NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Super GPU With 21Gbps GDDR6X Memory Reportedly In The Works

As NVIDIA reportedly preps its next-generation GPU architecture, Ada Lovelace, rumours have surfaced that the GPU brand plans on sending off its current Ampere lineup with one last hurray. That hurray, by the way, is rumoured to come in the form of a GeForce RTX 3090 Super.

Rumours of the RTX 3090 Super first came to light via prominent leakster Greymon55 (@greymon55), who said that the card was going to ship out with 10753 CUDA cores, which is 256 CUDA cores more than the current RTX 3090. Additionally, they also said that the card would require upwards of 400W of power to run, which clearly exceeds the current 350W TGP of the RTX 3090.

Less than a day after that rumour, another popular leakster, kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi), posted more information about the RTX 3090 Super, saying that the card TGP was higher at 450W. Further, the card also would not have an NVLink unlike the RTX 3090, because SLI is pretty much dead at this point. On that note, it doesn’t appear that the card’s 24GB GDDR6X memory is getting increased, but until its launch, that is still up for change.

Another interesting plot point is that the RTX 3090 Super is expected to run on a new GA102-350-A1 architecture, along with GDDR6X memory running at 21Gbps. Again, for context, the GDDR6X on the currently existing RTX 3090 run at 19.5Gbps, which is already extremely fast. Even more interesting, though, is that kopite7kimi says that NVIDIA plans on launching the RTX 3090 Super before the year is out.

As exciting as this news may sound to us, it should also be noted that these rumours do not mention or affirm if NVIDIA also plans on releasing other Super variants of other RTX 30 series GPUs, including the RTX 3060, RTX 3070, and RTX 3080. That said, the chances of that happening for the latter two models are exceedingly slim, seeing how the company just recently launched the “Ti” versions of said cards.

If these rumours actually do become reality, it is also likely that NVIDIA’s AiB partners will have no choice but to fit their own custom-cooled versions of the GPU with no less than three 8-PIN PCIe power ports in order to run the card. That, or adopt the 12-pin power connector that NVIDIA uses on its Founders Edition cards.

On that note and as always, NVIDIA has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of such a card, as is the brand’s policy. So, take this news with a liberal sprinkling of salt.

Solar-Powered Adidas Headphones Are In The Works

Adidas is a global powerhouse that is known by many, mainly through its vast catalogue of sportswear and footwear. One of the brand’s latest projects still revolves around sports but comes in the form of audio equipment instead.

Some may not know this but Adidas has its own audio product lineup and we don’t mean those that the company have produced with Sennheiser before. Instead, what we meant is the Adidas Headphones family of products which are actually developed and designed by Zound Industries.

Based in Sweden, Zound was also responsible for bringing Marshall, who produced amplifiers used and adored by many musicians throughout the globe, into the world of consumer audio products in 2010. The partnership between Zound and Adidas is much recent though, as the initial batch of Adidas Headphones products was just launched in 2019.

Designed as the follow-up to the original Adidas RPT-01, what made the upcoming RPT-02 SOL rather interesting is the fact that it will be solar-powered, through the usage of Powerfoyle solar cell made by another Swedish company, Exeger. Aside from that, Zound will also be using recycled plastics in order to manufacture RPT-02 SOL.

As the story goes, this is not the first time that Zound and Exeger have collaborated together though. In fact, Zound has used Exeger’s Powerfoyle on another headphone called Los Angeles, that the company will release this month under its in-house brand, Urbanista.

However, the RPT-02 SOL will feature an on-ear design as opposed to the Los Angeles headphone which features an over-ear design instead. The fact that the Adidas-branded release is made for an active lifestyle, set them apart as well, given that the RPT-02 SOL will also be lighter than the Los Angeles headphone .

While the teaser video from Zound and Exeger has shown the general design outline of RPT-02 SOL, it is still going to be quite some time before consumers can get their hands on them though. At the moment, Zound plans to release the RPT-02 SOL within the first half of 2022 and are expected to have a price tag of between USD 199 (~RM 834) to USD 229 (~RM 960).

Apple May Have A Rugged Watch In The Works

The Apple Watch sort of has sports editions, but these rarely differ from the base model beyond a sportier strap. But it looks like the iPhone maker may be considering a rugged watch for the outdoorsy folk. More specifically, it will be one with a rugged enough case to survive extreme environments.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is considering releasing a rugged watch either in late 2021 or some time in 2022. The ruggedness will come in the form of an impact resistant shell. This will be similar to what you’ll find on Casio G-Shock watches. The rubber shell will allow it to survive more extreme mishaps than the current metal materials. And it might be something that would appeal to those into more extreme activities like hiking.

Though this isn’t the first time the company has thought of making such a watch. And like the previous times, sources to Bloomberg say Apple may ultimately decide against it one more time. After all, the current version is already pretty popular with athletes.

The rugged version of the Apple Watch is known internally as the Explorer Edition. And should the company decide to actually release it, it will be another option in addition to the base and SE models.
