Rumour Suggests Next iPhone SE Retains Predecessor’s Design; Gains 5G And A15 Chip

Apple is said to be releasing a new entry to its more occasional smartphone series, the iPhone SE, sometime in early 2022. According to Japanese blog Macotakara, the upcoming model will allegedly come with recent hardware for its core internals, but retains its predecessor’s overall design.

In regards to the latter, this means that the new SE will still sport the iPhone 8’s look once more. Therefore, it may also feature a 4.7-inch LCD display with large upper and lower bezels, a curved aluminium frame, and a single rear camera setup. Concurrently, this would see the return of the Touch ID-enabled Home Button below the phone’s screen as well.

As for hardware, Macotakara suggests the next-gen iPhone SE will be equipped with the 5G-enabled A15 chip – the same SoC that is featured in the brand’s current generation iPhone 13 series. Unfortunately, no information regarding its battery or its front and rear camera sensors were shared by the Apple-specialised Japanese blog. Lastly, it is said that the new SE will begin production this December, and is expected to be launched later in Spring 2022.

This actually isn’t the first time that Apple is rumoured to be releasing a follow-up model to its iPhone SE line-up. Back in June, reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo similarly suggested a new iteration of the phone with upgraded internals is currently in the works, and that it would also feature the same chassis as its predecessor. While the rumours are seemingly corroborating with each other, it is still worth reminding that both of which are unofficially sourced and may end up to be inaccurate in the end.

Reimagining Small Space Living Our love letter to the visionaries and artists of small—footprint design.

We have carefully curated our 30 favourite ingenious projects under 50 square metres to inspire and delight you.

You can drop-by at this website to support this book :

From Melbourne to Madrid, Athens to Amsterdam and Singapore to Sydney, we revisit some of our favourite designs while also sharing new spaces, not yet featured on our channel.

Architectural images, detailed floor plans and an extensive directory make this a rich resource for anyone looking to build, redesign or reimagine their own small space. We go beyond the designs and their creators to explore the historical context, the neighbourhoods and the cultures that shaped their inception.

You’ll discover ideas for creating less waste as we build our homes and expand our cities, ideas for reducing our footprints and living more sustainably, and compelling arguments for how these ends can all be achieved without compromising on comfort of style.

This is our celebration… our love letter to the visionaries and artists of small-footprint design.

For the first time, we introduce five key design principles to help us unpack and learn from their work.

  • We explore how designs diversify living spaces to maximise their footprints and adapt to need or mood…
  • And how they amplify a sense of space by allowing light and air to flow freely within it.
  • We admire the architects and designers who don’t strip away but instead expand structures and add bulk to create greater function and comfort.
  • We applaud those who revive the outdated and old to give it new life…
  • And we marvel at the architects who innovate with bold features, materials and concepts to not only elevate and distinguish their own design but to challenge the notions of what small footprint living can be.

Realme Book Specs And Design Leaks; Reportedly Launching In Late August

Alleged renders of Realme’s first laptop has made its way online, showcasing the product in its full glory. The leak was provided by reliable tech insider OnLeaks (in collaboration with website GizNext), who also shared tidbits regarding the Realme Book’s specifications.

As mentioned earlier, the renders detailed the upcoming laptop in every angle – revealing more than what was teased by Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth back in June. To no one’s surprise, the Realme Book appears to be yet another device that has drawn inspiration from a certain MacOS-powered laptop in terms of design and form. Maybe if you squint a little, it might resemble something from one of Realme’s more closer rivals instead.

This is somewhat disappointing, considering that the brand has been very aesthetically vocal about its branding and strong use of colours on its products – especially its smartphones. But then again; these renders are merely leaks, so there is a chance that they may end up being inaccurate.

Moving on.

Specs-wise, OnLeaks and GizNext claim that the Realme Book will feature a 14-inch display, the “latest” Intel Core i3 or Core i5 processors, and will be offered in various RAM and SSD storage configurations. Other features include a power button + fingerprint scanner combo, two USB-C slots, one USB-A port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It will also come with pre-installed Windows 10 and Microsoft Office, the report added.

Lastly, the leak suggests that the new Realme Book is expected to launch by late August 2021 in India, at a competitive price of just under Rs40,000 (~RM2,247) for the lower-end variant. The report did not mention if the laptop would launch alongside the Realme Pad, the brand’s first tablet product which was also leaked a few days prior to this.

Secretlab Launches TITAN Evo 2022 Series Gaming Chair With Improved Design And Features

Secretlab announced its 2022 Series gaming chair lineup and from the looks of it, the brand is streamlining both its Omega and Titan series into a single chair. That chair is the TITAN Evo 2022 and it comes in three different sizes, along with a handful of new design upgrades and features.

In regards to chair size, the TITAN Evo 2022 is available in either Small (S), Regular (R), or Extra Large (XL). Each size is designed to accommodate individuals within a specific weight category. In addition, Secretlab says that the S and R models have been refitted with shorter hydraulics and “improved design engineering” that should allow users’ feet to stay flat on the ground.

Moving on, the TITAN Evo 2022’s seat now uses what the brand calls a Pebble seat base that is supposedly a combination of the seats from its Omega and Titan lineup. Then, as now, the chair’s upholstery is available in two textures: Secretlab’s new NEO hybrid leatherette and a new and imrpvoed SoftWeave Plus fabric. Regarding the former, the NEO hybrid leatherette is 12 times more durable than its standard PU leather, which we’re guessing means that the material won’t peel off so easily after prolong use.

As for the new and improved features, let’s start with the seat of the TITAN Evo 2022; it’s fitted with the brand’s proprietary cold-cure foam mix that it says helps to distribute a user’s weight easily and relieve pressure over long hours of sitting.

On another note, even the chair’s lumbar support system has been upgraded with a new 4-way L-Adapt system that not only enables users to adjust it in or out, but also up or down. Depending on how much lower or higher your spine is. In addition, the lumbar system also has a lattice of living hinges that Secretlab says can intelligently adapt to the curvature of one’s spine.

Of course, it comes as no surprise that the 4D armrests on the TITAN Evo 2022 are now magnetic and hot-swappable, courtesy of the new CloudSwap system. As for what’s available as a replacement to the original armrests, there is one custom-made model that is filled with a heat-dissipating gel, with more designs and materials to be announced over the chair’s shelf life. Lastly, the memory foam head pillow is now magnetic and snaps effortlessly onto the headrest of the TITAN Evo 2022, doing away with needless fiddling of straps.

Intel Alder Lake-S “Socket V” Chipset To Feature Lower Z-Stack, Rectangular Design

Intel’s 12th generation Alder Lake-S desktop CPUs are expected to make their debut sometime before the end of the year and while rumours may suggest that the top-of-the-line model will support as many cores as AMD’s current flagship Ryzen 9 5950X, little else is known about the lineup. That is, up until now.

According to a report by the German tech site, Igor’s Lab, Alder Lake-S’ chipset isn’t just shipping out with a larger LGA1700 chipset – codenamed Socket V – but it will also be the first socket to house a completely new processor design in a long time. Specifically, blueprints obtained by the German publication point at Socket V supporting a processor with a rectangular design. Further, the Z-Stack, which is the total height of the CPU package, will be lower by approximately 1mm.

Not only that, but Igor also seems to have stumbled upon a set of blueprints that point to a new cooler that seemingly makes use of the high-performance thermoelectric cooling technology. This isn’t the first time such a cooler has made headlines; with its LGA1200 chipset, Intel partnered up with Cooler Master to create and launch the MasterLiquid ML360 Sub-Zero cooler.

Igor also managed to get his hands on schematics that seem to detail a low-profile reference cooler that look like they could be bundled with the lineup’s mid-range and entry-level processors at launch. Naturally, given the increased die size and pin density, it is very unlikely that this cooler will be backwards compatible with LGA1200 chipsets.

Alleged Huawei P50 Mockup Surfaces; Seemingly Confirming Prior Leaks Of Its Design

A photo featuring alleged mockups of Huawei’s upcoming P50 flagship smartphone has recently surfaced online. The image, shared by Slasheaks via Twitter, shows both the front and rear design of the device, which resembles the renders shared by Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) back in March.

The P50’s display is shown to feature a large amount of screen real estate, surrounded by thin bezels. Located on the top centre is a single punch-hole cutout for its front-facing camera – indicating that Huawei have decided to drop the pill-shaped cutout from the phone’s predecessor. In terms of size, Hemmerstoffer’s earlier leak suggests that the standard P50 will come with a 6.3-inch display and features a dimension of 156.7 x 74 x 8.3mm.

The rear side of the phone appears to feature either a glass or plastic white panel, which will likely be available in more colour options at launch – whenever that may be. Then we have the massive dual circular glass housings for the P50’s camera system, arranged vertically on a cylindrical island on the top left corner of its back.

Thanks to this alleged leaked mockup, we now know that each circular housing features two cameras – totalling up to four shooters on the device. Strangely enough, all the cameras shown are similar in size and type – something that could potentially change in the final version. OnLeaks says that the P50 may be equipped with an unannounced IMX800, Sony’s rumoured 1-inch sensor for mobile phones.

Also not forgetting that a potential high specced variant of the device may be in the works. According to a separate leak by Hemmerstoffer prior to this, the alleged Huawei P50 Pro will feature the same rear camera array design as the vanilla version, but features a curved front display instead.

As usual, we highly advise that you take the information provided through leaks such as these with a grain of salt. With its mockup now seemingly revealed, there’s a chance that Huawei may be gearing up to introduce its P50 flagship smartphone sometime in the coming weeks or even months.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Lite Design And Specifications Leaks

New renders and details featuring the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Lite have recently surfaced online, thanks to leakster Evan Blass (@evleaks). This corroborates an earlier leak by fellow industry insider WalkingCat (@_h0x0d_) back in late February, which featured details and the expected release window of the tablet via an alleged product roadmap from the South Korean tech giant.

According to Blass’ leak, the Lite features a large 12.4-inch LCD display with dual front-facing cameras housed on its right bezel (top, if viewed in landscape orientation), therefore making it similar to last year’s Galaxy Tab S7 Plus model in terms of size and appearance. However, the new variant reportedly comes with a WQXGA LTPS TFT screen, rather than a Super AMOLED panel that’s featured on the Plus.

On the back of the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite appears to be an aluminium body with a dual camera setup situated on the top left corner. Just below the shooters is a magnetised port to hold and maybe charge the S-Pen accessory, which is presumably packaged together with the tablet once it launches. Meanwhile, on the top and bottom of the device are grilles for its AKG-tuned speakers, and a USB-C port is also visible below it.

Unfortunately, the leakster did not detail the other hardware specifications of the upcoming tablet. However, according to websites PhoneArena and SamMobile, the device will reportedly feature Android 11 via the brand’s One UI 3.1, a 5G-enabled Snapdragon 750G chipset, and 4GB of RAM. Using last year’s Galaxy Tab S6 Lite as reference, a WiFi-only version of the new tablet is also quite likely.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Lite is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. Both of these are expected to debut later this year in June, according to the earlier leak by WalkingCat.

Alleged Apple iPhone 13 mini Design Leaks; Features New Camera Layout

It appears that the alleged design for the next generation mini variant of Apple’s iPhone has been leaked, according to two different sources. The first, via a post on Weibo, revealed a CAD drawing of the new device alongside its predecessor, while the second is a mock render provided by leakster David Kowalski aka xleaks7 (in collaboration with Italian website Coverpigtou.it).

Both leaks suggest that the iPhone 13 mini will feature a new layout for its dual camera setup. Each sensor is now arranged diagonally from each other, as opposed to the vertical layout of its predecessor. One noticeable discrepancy is the size of the sensors, where they seem to appear larger in the Weibo leak, while Kowalski’s render shows them to be smaller.

As for the rest of the device, the leak from Kowalski reveals the same flat design for the phone’s surrounding frame. The leakster also claimed that the iPhone 12 mini measures at 146.64 x 71.5 x 56 mm in terms of dimensions, therefore appearing no different from last year’s model. The notch on its suggested 5.4-inch display is shown to be slightly smaller – somewhat corroborating another leak that revealed Apple’s allegedly updated design language that we’ve reported last week.

Unfortunately, neither of these leaks included any information regarding the other hardware specifications of the iPhone 13 mini or its siblings. However, Kowalski noted that all iPhone 13 devices will feature LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) displays and are expected to launch in October with a starting price of US$ 699 (~RM 2,888). For your reference, last year’s iPhone 12 mini launched at around the same price (locally at RM 3,399) for the 64GB configuration.

iPad mini 6 Dummy Unit Shows That It Will Be Keeping Its Archaic Design

While rumours of the iPad mini 6 have been floating around, they’ve not been consistent about the tablet’s design. Some point to it having the same design it has always had, while others claim that it too will get the iPad Pro makeover. More evidence for the former have since appeared, in the form of dummy units.

Blogger and leaker Sonny Dickson shared on Twitter what looks to be dummy units of the upcoming iPad Pros and mini. And for better or worse, all three tablets look like there will be no change in their design. Not that bad a deal for the pricier tablets, but definitely a downer for the smaller sibling.

If the dummy units are representative of the actual products, then the iPad mini 6 sticks out like a sore thumb among other iPads. The vast majority of them have already adopted the design of the Pro, including the iPad Air 4. Only the base iPad and the mini are still stuck with the forehead and chin.

The dummies also casts more doubt on the possibility of the iPad mini 6 coming with two punch hole cutouts. The same applies for the possibility of a Pro model for the mini line.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Leaks; Allegedly Features Same Design But Different Specs

It’s been rumoured that Samsung may launch a Fan Edition (FE) of the Galaxy S21 later this year – much like its 2020 Galaxy S20 flagship, which saw the release of its FE variant back in October. Although the company has yet to confirm the phone’s existence, a recent leak by renown insider Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) may have given us a first look at its design and specifications.

According to the leakster, not much has changed in terms of design for the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. It is suggested that the variant majorly retains the look of the original model, but with some minor differences in size – making it larger than the standard Galaxy S21, but still smaller than the Plus version. Hemmerstoffer noted that the allegedly upcoming smartphone measures at 155.7 x 74.5 x 7.9mm, which is 4mm taller and 3.3mm wider than the base model.

In terms of display, it is said that the FE will feature a larger 6.4-inch display, along with a single top-centered camera cutout. Similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S20 FE, the new phone is suggested to come with only a flat panel.

As for its rear design, the leakster says its rear camera housing has received a slight redesign, where it is integrated and protrudes directly from the back panel. The same bump on the original models, on the other hand, is built together with the surrounding frame. The Galaxy S21 FE’s rear panel will likely feature a frosted glass/plastic finishing and surrounding it will be a shiny metal frame, Hemmerstoffer added.

Not much has been revealed regarding the allegedly upcoming phone’s specifications, unfortunately. The only information shared by the leakster is its rear triple camera setup, which is suggested to come with the same 12MP wide, 64MP telephoto and 12MP ultra-wide sensors as the original model, but is said to feature downgraded lenses for cost reduction.

Chances are, it is possible that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could come packaged with a Snapdragon chipset like its predecessor. While the preferred choice is obviously a Snapdragon 888, the likeliness of it featuring a Snapdragon 870 SoC for the sake of a more affordable price tag is also plausible. That, or it could instead come with the same Samsung Exynos 2100 processor featured in the original models, or maybe a tweaked version of it.

As usual, we highly advise to take this new leak with a pinch of salt. Hopefully, Samsung would reveal more details regarding this variant of its 2021 flagship sometime soon – provided that this rumour is accurate, of course.

OnePlus Watch’s Design Officially Confirmed

OnePlus has confirmed the design of its first ever smartwatch that is scheduled to launch alongside its flagship smartphones, the OnePlus 9 series, on 23 March. Interestingly enough, rather than providing an official image of the device, the company instead retweeted a post by Unbox Therapy that claims to have an exclusive look at the upcoming smartwatch.

From the OnePlus-endorsed “leak”, the device is shown to sport a circular watch face that is reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active series, and features two buttons on its right side. Also implied in the image is an Always-On function, which enables the OnePlus Watch to continuously display certain features while using less energy.

As usual from teasers such as these, the brand did not provide any further information regarding the smartwatch’s specifications. However, a recent tweet by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau suggests that the device will come with some form of water resistance. He also shared other significant details regarding the watch on the brand’s official forum, revealing that it will operate on a proprietary software platform and would also feature smart controls that will seamlessly connect with other devices under OnePlus’ ecosystem.

Lastly, Lau noted that the OnePlus Watch will offer consumers a “best-in-class experience at an affordable price point”. We’ll see if the brand’s first ever smartwatch will live up to the claim once more information regarding its specifications and pricing is officially provided during the upcoming launch.

Alleged Huawei P50 Pro Design Leaks; Features Jarring Rear Camera Array

Huawei has yet to reveal any information regarding a next generation P-series flagship smartphone that is expected to be released this year. While official information is scarce, leaks of a supposed new model – most likely to be known as the P50 – has been circulating around the web, with the most recent one giving us a glimpse of what its Pro variant may look like.

Shared on Voice by renown leakster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) are a set of renders depicting the design of Huawei’s allegedly upcoming P50 Pro. “The design is going to shock you,” he wrote in his post, and we couldn’t agree more. As shown in the provided images, the phone’s most jarring design element is its unconventional-looking rear camera array which features a massive pill-shaped vertical island housing two large camera bumps. Hemmerstoffer believes that each bump is likely to further house multiple sensors instead of a humongous camera.

Meanwhile, the front side of the alleged P50 Pro is said to come with a 6.6-inch curved display with a small top-centered punch-hole cutout to house its selfie camera. The leakster added that the phone is built around a metal frame with a glass rear panel, and measures at 159 x 73 x 8.6mm in size. Other features include an under-display fingerprint sensor, IR blaster, USB-C charging port, and stereo speakers located on the top and bottom of the phone.

Besides the design renders and other minor details regarding the Huawei P50 Pro, Hemmerstoffer did not provide any further information regarding its specifications. Earlier rumours suggest that the new flagship will be powered by the in-house developed Kirin 9000 – the same chipset used to power the company’s Mate40 flagship series last year. It is also believed that the curved OLED panel is supplied by Samsung and LG – both of which were greenlit by the US government in late October 2020 to resume trade with Huawei.

As discussed before, it’s about time that smartphone designs receive some form of rework in order to distinguish each brand apart. In the P50 Pro’s case, on the other hand, it appears that Huawei is nailing that aspect but at the cost of looking a bit too jarring and bizarre. Provided that this leak is accurate, that is.

Samsung Announces 980 NVMe SSD; Features DRAM-Less Design And More Affordable Price Point

Samsung Electronics today announced its new 980 NVMe SSD, the Korean electronics giant’s first consumer-ready high-speed storage to feature a DRAM-less.

Despite having been manufactured with a DRAM-less design, Samsung says that the 980 retains blazing fast NVMe speeds via Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, which links the drive directly to the host processor’s DRAM. This design allows the 980 to retain NVMe 3.0 transfer speeds. On that note, the SSD can boast sequential read and write speeds of 3500MB/s and 3000MB/s respectively, while random read and write performances are rated at 500K IOPS and 480K IOPS, respectively.

Further, the 980 also features an upgraded Intelligent TurboWrite 2.0 feature, allocating a larger buffer storage area within the SSD. On another note, the SSD also sports some advanced heat dissipation technology via the use of Dynamic Thermal Guard, nickel-coated controller, and a special heat spreader label.

The Samsung 980 SSD is available in three capacities: 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB. Pricing starts at US$49.99 (~RM206) for the 250GB, US$69.99 (~RM289) for 500GB, and US$129.99 (~RM539) for the 1TB. Regardless of capacities, all variants come with a five-year limited warranty.

Nothing Showcases Its Design Principles; Unveils Concept 1 TWS Earbuds

A grandmother’s tobacco pipe. That’s exactly what Carl Pei wrote when explaining the inspiration behind the design of its first ever product, the Concept 1 true wireless (TWS) earbuds. This then begged these questions: whose grandmother, why is she smoking with a translucent pipe, and why did she buy one in the first place?

Jokes aside, what is shown above is indeed the actual design of the Concept 1 shared by CEO Carl Pei in a blogpost on Nothing’s official website. The earbuds sport a translucent body which enables us to see its interior, including a black tube with the company’s branding printed on its side. Honestly, it looks more like an electrical fuse if you ask us.

Pei elaborated that the transparency represents Nothing’s “commitment to bringing technology closer to people”, and added the brand’s design philosophy is also based on three core principles: Weightless, Effortless, and Timeless. Weightless emphasises on the removal of “superficial” elements while maintaining those that add value to the product, Effortless represents the simplification to the user experience, and Timeless is the company’s goal of achieving designs that will feel fresh and relevant for years to come.

It is far too early to call whether the Concept 1 has actually achieved any of the three principles listed by Pei, especially in terms of user experience. That being said, Nothing has yet to reveal any of its TWS earbuds’ specifications such as the audio drivers, battery life and so on. There’s also the probability that the device is merely what is described by its name – a proof of concept which may not represent the actual product that the company plans to debut later in summer 2021.

Case in point, the Concept 1’s translucent look is more interesting than the typical AirPods design that’s often imitated by various tech companies. Hopefully this same style will also be carried over to Nothing’s potential smartphones, which are expected to be released under the recently acquired Essential brand. As proven by Xiaomi prior to this, phones with transparent rear cases are pretty cool.

Samsung Galaxy A72 Revealed In Its Full Glory; Design And Specifications Leaks

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy A72 and Galaxy A52 models – the successors to its best selling 2020 mid-range smartphones – sometime this year. Thanks to a recent leak by Dutch publication WinFuture, the design and specifications of the former has been revealed in its full glory.

At first glance, the new Galaxy A72 model looks almost similar to its predecessor, especially in front – save for a smaller punch-hole camera cutout. Flipping the phone over, meanwhile, exhibits a new “hump” look for its camera array which seamlessly blends with the rest of its rear case. This replaces the glass housing approach that was featured on last year’s model, giving the Galaxy A72 a cleaner look. The images provided by WinFuture suggests this upcoming Samsung smartphone will be offered in four colour options: black, white, light blue and lavender.

Specifications-wise, the website says the Galaxy A72 will sport a 6.7-inch SuperAMOLED display with 2,400 x 1,080 pixel resolution, a refresh rate of up to 90Hz, which also features an in-display fingerprint scanner. Under its hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset, along with RAM and internal storage configurations of up to 8GB and 256GB respectively.

Powering the phone is a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support via USB, although its wattage is not specified. For reference, last year’s model supported 25W fast charging – a standard seen across all Samsung smartphones, including the recently released Galaxy S21 series.

For photography, the rear camera hump houses a quad camera setup consisting of a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP telephoto with 2x magnification, 12MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro. Housed in the front display’s punch-hole cutout is a 32MP camera.

Other than that, WinFuture reports that the Galaxy A72 features a headphone jack, a microSD card slot and would run on the current, if not, the latest version of Samsung’s Android 11-based One UI 3 operating system. The site added the phone is also dust and water resistant, with a rating of IP67.

If this leak is to be believed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A72 is nothing more than a slightly tweaked version of its predecessor. Besides featuring a new chipset, higher refresh rate for its display, a larger battery and other improvements, pretty much everything else on this model is similar to last year’s model. This may not entice existing A71 owners to upgrade, but it isn’t totally a deal breaker per say – as the phone is still a worthwhile consideration for those who wish to hop over from older or entry-level models.

According to WinFuture, the new smartphone’s expected selling price in Europe is at EUR499 (~RM2,444) – a slight price bump from its predecessor’s EUR470 (RM1,799 in Malaysia) launch price. In terms of availability, it is not known when Samsung is planning to officially unveil or launch the new Galaxy A72 and A52 devices.
